Gandhi Jayanti 2021: Mahatma Gandhi “The Father Of Nation”

Mahatma Gandhi

Gandhi Jayanti is a national holiday in India commemorating Mahatma Gandhi's birthday. It is one of India's three national holidays, and it is observed every year on October 2. On June 15, 2007, the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution designating October 2 as the International Day of Non-Violence. He is also regarded as the "Father of the Nation," a title bestowed upon him by Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose in recognition of his unwavering efforts to secure our independence.

Commemoration:

Every year on October 2nd, Gandhi Jayanti is commemorated. It is one of India's official national holidays, observed in all of the country's states and territories.

Gandhi Jayanti is commemorated with prayer services and tributes around India, especially at Gandhi's cremation site, Raj Ghat in New Delhi. Prayer meetings and commemorative events held by colleges, local government entities, and socio-political institutions in various cities are popular activities. Painting and essay competitions are held, with the best honours going to projects in schools and communities that promote a nonviolent lifestyle while also honouring Gandhi's contribution to Indian independence.

Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram, Gandhi's favourite Bhajan (Hindu devotional song), is frequently sung in his honour. [3] Mahatma Gandhi statues are adorned with flowers and garlands across the country, and some individuals refrain from consuming alcohol or eating meat on this day. [4] All government offices, banks, and post offices are closed.
