The mean of marks of the students in a class of 20 students was 50. On re-examination two errors were noticed. After improvement, 25 marks of one student increased and 5 marks of another student decreased. Now tell what will be the new mean marks of the class?

प्रश्न: 20 छात्रों की एक कक्षा में छात्रों के प्राप्तांकों का माध्य 50 था। दुबारा जाँच करने पर दो गलतियाँ ध्यान में आईं। सुधार के बाद एक छात्र के 25 अंक बढ़ गए थे तो दूसरे छात्र के 5 अंक घट गए थे। बताएँ कि अब कक्षा का नया माध्य अंक क्या होगा ?

उत्तर: इस प्रश्न में बताया गया है कि 20 छात्रों के प्राप्तांको का माध्य 50 था।

दुबारा जांच करने के बाद दो छात्रों के अंको में बदलाव हुआ

मान लो दो छात्र a और b है 

अन्य बचे 18 छात्र को X18 के रूप में लिखा जा सकता है।

माध्य= Xn/n

माध्य= (X18+a+b)/20 =50   equation-(i)

जांच के पश्चात,

a के अंको में बदलाव= +25 or (a+25)

b के अंको मे बदलाव= –5 or (b-5)

अतः माध्य= (X18+a+25+b-5)/20

              = (X18+a+b+20)/20

equation-(i) द्वारा

              =(X18+a+b)/20 =50

              = 50+20/20

              = 50+1

              = 51 Ans

After re-examination, the marks of two students changed. 

Let there be two students a and b

The remaining 18 students can be written as X18.

Mean= Xn/n

Mean= (X18+a+b)/20 =50   equation-(i)

After improvement,

Change in a's mark= +25 or (a+25)

Change in b's mark= -5 or (b-5)

Therefore, mean= (X18+a+25+b-5)/20

              = (X18+a+b+20)/20

From equation-(i)

              =(X18+a+b)/20 =50

              = 50+20/20

              = 50+1

              = 51 Ans
