How to solve ques like these where you have to find the day?

Ques: If its Monday on 24^th Jan, 1994 then what day will be on 24^th Jan, 1995?

Solution: First of all, how many days there are in a year?

The answer is 365 in a normal year and 366 in a leap year

Fact: do you know the reason behind it? actually it takes earth approximately 365*1/4 or 365.242189 days or 365 days, 5 hours, 48 minutes, and 45 seconds to circle once around the sun. this is called a tropical year. This extra ¼ part makes a complete day after every four years since 1/4+1/4+1/4+1/4= 4/4 or = 1

Because of this extra day leap year has 366 days instead of 365.

Here are some rules to find out leap years: 

• A leap year is generally divisible by 4 also by 400.

Now back to the ques;

There are 365 days in a year generally and there are 7 days in a week so if we divide 365 by 7 then we get:

This remaining 1 day is added to next year so we can write our ques as:

There are seven days in a week i.e., Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday

Now add remaining number as per according to the days i.e. if it was Monday on 24^th Jan, 1994 then by adding one day it will be Tuesday on 24^th Jan, 1995.

 

Ques 2: If it was Sunday on 24^th Jan, 1994 then what was the day on 24^th Jan, 1993?

Solution: in this ques problem is same but it is asked backward i.e. demand is about previous year.

Similarly, one remains left,

When the demand is about next upcoming year then remaining, one is added and when demand is about previous then we have to subtract one day i.e. on 1993 it was Saturday on 24^th January.

Conclusion: A day is increased every year on same date if it’s a normal year i.e., having 365 days.

 

Ques 3: What about leap year?

Solution: In leap year if the month of February is included then 2 days are added or subtracted as per the demand of ques. Lets solve few ques having leap year included.

 

Ques 4: if its Saturday on 3^rd august, 1995 then what will be the day on 3^rd august, 1996?

Solution: 1996 is a leap year since it is divisible by 4

Now according to our previous statements if we divide 366/7 we can an extra 2 i.e. two days are increased we can write it as  

Since month of February is included so an extra day is also been added i.e.

Remaining 1 + extra 1 day of February = 2 days

Therefore Saturday + 2 days = Monday

It means it will be Monday on 3^rd august, 1996.
