Smartphone Distribution in Himachal Pradesh
10,000 meritorious students studying in Himachal Pradesh's schools and colleges will be given smart mobile phones worth Rs 11,450. The government has decided to give smart mobile phones of Samsung Galaxy M-12 model to the meritorious students of Himachal Pradesh session 2020-21.
In the Android operating system, this phone will have 64 GB internal storage with dual sim and Octa Core Processor 2.0.The government has approved the Directorate of Higher Education to start the procurement process. Smart mobile phones are being procured through the GeM portal.
Expected Date
Expected date for smartphones distribution in Himachal Pradesh. The plan for distributing smartphones to the meritorious students is around August 15, 2022. Smart mobile phones will be given to the meritorious students included in the merit list of academic session 2020-21.
The government has allotted laptops to the meritorious of 2018-19 and 2019-20 only in the past. Last year, the government had decided to give smart mobile phones to the meritorious from 2020-21.
Regarding this, the Directorate of Higher Education has started the procurement/obtainment process through the GeM portal.

In order to bring transparency in this purchase, the central government has created the Gem portal for online shopping. GeM is a completely paperless, cashless and system driven e-marketplace, which facilitates the purchase of common use goods and services with minimal human interface.
Specifications of Smart Mobile Phone
The screen of smart mobile phone will be 6.3 inches. The battery of the phone with 4G connectivity will be 6,000 mAh. Ear phones will also be given together. The phone's storage can be increased upto 512 GB. The company that manufactures smart mobile phones in India will be selected by the Directorate of Higher Education.

Free Tempered glass and back cover will also be provided alongwith smart mobile phone
The meritorious will also get tempered glass and back cover with smart mobile phone. Tempered glass is applied to protect the mobile phone screen from cracking. Its price in the market starts from Rs.100.
4 GB RAM with Five cameras
Smart phones with four GB RAM with five cameras will be given to the meritorious by the government. Four cameras will be on the rear while one camera will be on the front. The front camera is of eight pixels. While the rear cameras are of 48, 5, 2 and 2 mega pixels.
